Suriya, Linguswamy a mafia theme set in Bombay – Sikander, the Telugu version of the Tamil film Anjaan was in the news for quite some time, and there were a lot of expectations Suriya’s fans. So let’s see if it lives up to expectations …
Story:
The film begins in Kanyakumari, but the story begins in Mumbai. Krishna (Suriya) comes from Vizag to Mumbai and starts asking about his missing brother Raju. How come after a meeting with people, we are told that it is actually Raju Raju bhai (Suriya again), well-known and much-loved gangster in Mumbai. He along with his friend Chandu (vidyut Jamwal) to rule the underworld in the happy-go-lucky manner. But the opposition comes in the form of strict police commissioner. To him against Raju Bhai kidnaps his daughter Jeeva (Samantha). One thing leads to another and in no time, falls in love with Jeeva brash and macho Raju bhai. And it’s not long before Raju bhai returns his love for Jeeva cheerful and sweet.
Although their romance begins, Raju bhai and Chandu end up making enemies Imran (Manoj Bajpai). Raju bhai disappear and Chandu is killed. Krishna will find his brother? Chandu’s death will be avenged, make up the rest of the story.
Introducing Artists’:
Is Suriya show completely. It is ideal as a crutch-wielding brother Raju bhai who comes looking for her brother at the beginning of the film. But the show stealer is definitely Raju Bhai, who is brash, wild and menacing at times. Plays the part with vigor and spells you his amazing smile. On emotions beautifully with the eyes during romantic and emotional scenes is a total joy to watch, as always.
Samantha, on the other hand, leaves her fans disappointed. Discards your current Jane picture look ultra glam. Her stylist did a good job and she’s seen some really good clothes. And yes, all of her fans to get there to see her in a bikini. Despite lacking in Oomph element. While trying to make the best sizzle in hot pants, looks like a little schoolgirl of fun rather than a hot girl courted her boyfriend. Telugu viewers are bound to be disappointed, because they are accustomed to in our lovely Samantha films.
Vidyut Jamwal as Chandu is a good match for Suriya and look totally believable as friends, who would die for each other. Well, considering the fact that it has a huge female fan following, does most of his handsome effort.
Manoj Bajpai as Imran is a major disappointment. After watching him in some memorable roles in Bollywood, looks pale and lost in the film. In fact, instead of looking intimidating, seems like I just got out of a major illness.
It is worth mentioning here Chitrangadha Singh, who was roped in to do the item song. It looks sensual and sexy in his red suit and provide the much needed oomph factor.
Brahmanandam puts in a cameo, which is a parody of famous musicians. Unfortunately, he fails to make the audience laugh and leaves you wondering why he accepted the role in the first place.
Other minor role gives a decent performance.
Technical Excellence:
The cinematography is by Santosh Sivan. So, that’s as good as ever. However, another major disappointment comes from Yuvan Shankar Raja. Given that it is a film that has thug decent background score. But the songs are completely forgettable, at least in the Telugu version.
As with most movies these days, the second half is a bit slow and editor could do away with a few scenes to keep pace.
Highlights:
Suriya’s performance
Minus Points:
weak plot
Music
Analysis:
For starters, it was said that it would be a double dhamaka for Suriya fans will get to see him in two roles. Then there were hordes of stories about Samantha removes her picture girl-next-door and turned on the hot and sexy for the film.
Last but certainly not least, Linguswamy with a good history hits promised that his film has everything that fans want to see Suriya in the film.
But the film disappoints on many levels. Despite still watch Suriya in two different roles, Suriya fans are bound to be disappointed by a weak screenplay director chose.
Samantha Fans are bound to be upset to see his favorite actress playing poorly etched out character unlike the author-backed role that gets to play in Telugu.
Although the film has it all – rival gangs, evil, friendship, betrayal, a few interesting twists separate from the cast, it fails to keep your attention.
Suriya puts its best, along with Samantha and vidyut Jamwal. But not save stale fare dished out Linguswamy.
With Suriya and Samantha in the cast gave sufficient space for it to crank out mega, commercial film. But it tells an ancient story in a boring and tedious yarn.
Nevertheless, the gangster film most of the people are weak and lacking depth unlike the characters seen in Bollywood gangster movie.
When I set out on a good note and uses flashback technique to unravel the story, it manages to keep the audience interested until the very end.
The story of boredom in the second half and Linguswamy throws no surprise that it is glued.
Before the release of this film, it was said that Sikander Suriya to do what he did for Rajinikant Badshah. But Linguswamy totally wasted two biggest stars and all the hardwork put in by promising team.
Watch it only if you are die-hard fans of Suriya.
Bottomline: Only for Suriya fans
